India has 7325 stations, while the United Kingdom has 2576 (not including subway/underground stations) on its national railway network.
I am unable to discover the identical thing in the USA. Unlike other countries, there doesn’t seem to be a clear demarcation between the national railway network and the metro/subway/suburban networks in the United States.
I was merely curious about the number of train stations in the “national” (as opposed to underground) network.

We love the unique shape of this Amtrak station, which is a semi-circular Art Deco structure with a striking terraced water cascade composed of green terrazzo and concrete in front.
It was finished in 1933 and was modeled after Helsinki’s Central Station. This civic masterwork is recognized as a National Historic Landmark and has a great arch of windows and an embedded Seth Thomas clock.
The Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center, an Omnimax cinema, mosaic murals, and the Cincinnati Museum Center are all located inside.
Grand Central Terminal | New York, NY
Yes, the building was constructed as part of the City Beautiful movement and is Grand Central Terminal, not Grand Central Station, as people frequently call it. This famous beauty from 1913 has the sort of New York-esque façade.
The Celestial Ceiling, which features 2,500 stars and 12 gold-leaf constellations, is located on the main concourse ceiling.
Founder Cornelius Vanderbilt requested that the Zodiac be painted backwards to offer spectators a divine rather than a human perspective.
The terminal was enlarged, and the heavenly ceiling, which had been harmed by decades of cigarette smoke, was restored during extensive restorations in the 1990s.
A second grand staircase was also erected during renovations to match the first section of the original plans, which had been postponed for eighty-four years.

Several presidents and other notable people have visited the station over the years; at one point, it received over 50,000 visitors per day, particularly while service members were leaving during World War II. In 2014, a grand reopening was held.
Moynihan Train Hall, New York, NY
We enjoy honoring the more recent developments in America’s rail system, particularly when they involve the adaptive reuse of a historic structure.
With its stunning columned façade, the historic James A. Farley Post Office building now houses Amtrak’s new home, Moynihan Train Hall.
(The original 1910 glitzy above-ground station at Penn Station was demolished in 1966 to construct Madison Square Garden, which is a major setback for preservationists.
However, lines and concourses continue to function in the current Penn Station beneath the Garden, which is connected to Moynihan.
The 92-foot skylights in the magnificent atrium of Moynihan Train Hall, which is crisscrossed with intriguing metalwork, let travelers enjoy the sunshine.
Designed by the same firm that created the 1910 station and incorporating much of the same Beaux-Arts aesthetic, it was a response to Penn’s overcrowding and opened to the public in January 2021. The Long Island Rail Road is also served by it.
Whitefish Station | Whitefish, MT
This station, with its huge dormers and half-timbered walls, has a touch of Bavaria in Montana. Restored in the 1990s, it houses the Stumptown Historical Society, railroad offices, and an indoor waiting area.
Currently a functioning Amtrak station, it was constructed in 1928 for the Burlington Northern Railroad and was in continuous service for 60 years.
BNSF Railway, the original rail line’s successor, has a lease on the upstairs. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places is this stunning station.
Union Station | Worcester, MA
This remarkable station is housed in an artistically intriguing structure with two shining white marble towers with spires.
The French-Renaissance-style station, which opened in 1911, served passengers on the Boston and Albany Railroad (B&A), the Boston and Maine railroads, and the New York, New Haven, and Hartford railroads.
Since it replaced a station from 1875 with a 212-foot clock tower (current towers are still a majestic 175 feet), it had to be constructed to impress.
After being boarded up and abandoned, the station was saved and reopened to travelers in July 2000. Amtrak and the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority commuter rail system both run trains there.
South Station | Boston, MA
Several intercity transit routes, the MBTA Red and Silver lines, and Amtrak are all served by this crowded location.
The clock on top of its beautiful curved facade depicts an eagle beginning to stretch its wings. It was first constructed as a union station in 1899 for five distinct rail systems, all of which have since been merged or shut down.
After surviving the wrecking ball, it was added to the National Register in 1975. In the heart of downtown, it is a lovely sight with lots of places to eat while you wait for your ride.
